A slower month for reading, but still some good bits in there.
The Spring edition of European Conservative. It’s truly a golden era for high end, quarterly or twice yearly, magazines now. Lots of great things out there with top production values and excellent content. The weekly, and perhaps monthly, magazine are dying out but these less frequent editions are taking their place.
The Rage of Achilles, Terence Hawkins. A re-read but a solid and interesting re-telling of the latter phases of the Trojan war. Very much goes into the theory of the bi-cameral mind but by doing so it actually echoes Sophocle’s Ajax very closely.
Brandy Sour. I’m a fan of well translated, European, literature and do have a vague interest in modern Greek writing. I came across this one through a drink recommendation here on substack, and as a fan of the brandy and soda as well I added it to the reading pile. A recent trip to Manchester let me get through this slim tome quickly. It’s a good read, and helps bring the Cyprus issue, one of Europe’s forgotten ulcers, back to mind.
I also read some work stuff on joint injections and such like, but I shan’t add that here.
I have about eight or nine books in various states of completion, so a sudden jump in numbers is quite plausible.
