I recently visited a stone circle, just on the English side of the border with Scotland.
I believe the stones have been re-erected in the last century or so, but this may have happened more than once in their four millennia long history. They still sit atop a ridge with what’s today quite a commanding view. I imagine the area was a quite a bit more wooded in the bronze age, when the population was lower and farming less intensive.
It’s interesting to see people still treating the area with reverence and small objects or offerings left around. The area was devoid of evil spirits, witches, monsters and elves which goes to show the circle is still working as intended.

My photos, complete with the modern offerings. It’s fascinating to me how these places call back similar behaviours to those we can imagine centuries ago. Like tossing a coin in a fountain, a single act links us to our ancient ancestors
